Politico Pro - Poland paused negotiations on the retail investment strategy - 26/05/2025

Poland paused negotiations on the retail investment strategy, which will be resumed by the Danish presidency in July.

RIS IS DEAD UNTIL JULY: They’ve only gone and done it. After threatening to stop work on the EU’s retail investment strategy, the Polish presidency decided on Friday to kill the file for the remainder of its presidency — meaning the next negotiation session scheduled for June 3 won’t be happening. What’s next: The incoming Danish presidency will be working in the wings on RIS, and the rest of the negotiators will likely be ready to pick up work again from July 1.

EP weighs in: The lawmaker leading work on the file, Stéphanie Yon-Courtin, told MFS: “Far from being a setback, this only marks the beginning of a strong partnership with the Danish – built on ambition and drive to deliver. Now is where the heavy lifting starts.” At least someone is optimistic!
