MEPs in the European Parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee backed a request to organize a parliamentary hearing with the four Big Tech CEOs, three Parliament officials told POLITICO.

During a coordinators meeting Monday evening, a majority of political groups — except for the European People’s Party — supported Renew Europe MEP Stéphanie Yon-Courtin’s suggestion to organize a public grilling of Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon’s top executives, the officials said.

The economic and monetary affairs committee’s chairwoman Irene Tinagli will draft a letter to the Conference of Presidents (CoP), which gathers presidents of the Parliament’s political groups, to ask for the hearing to be set up. The CoP will then have to assess and decide whether to approve the request.

Tinagli did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
